A true celebration of the 'documentary short', Documenta will bring to Campo San Polo a programme of previously unseen works, through a variety of themes and subjects ranging from the docu-film to the investigative documentary and the biographical. In the magical setting of the open-air cinema in Campo San Polo, we will present a selection of docs from around the world, looking at original themes, stories and subjects captured through the lens of experienced filmmakers and documentary filmmakers. The short film screenings will be followed by a question and answer session between the filmmakers present and the audience. Shorts On Tap was born in London in 2013 from an idea of the Venetian Filippo Polesel. The grandson is a young man like so many, a boy who works all day in a call centre but finds time for his nearest and dearest. The nephew is a young man like many, made a criminal by a marginal life, who takes advantage of the frailty of the elderly. A gripping noir about the nuances of the soul.

But upon the sudden death of their dear friend Magalie, Alice makes a shocking discovery: Magalie was having a secret affair! Peter, however, faced with the finiteness of life, falls into an existential crisis. Alice hopes that the cruise she has been dreaming of will rekindle the passion in her marriage to Peter, but to her surprise, her husband invites Magalie's widower Heinz to join them. On the ship, Peter spends all his time with his friend, so Alice decides to investigate Magalie's mysterious lover... Between Bread and Tulips and Sliding Doors, director Barbara Kulcsar paints with brushstrokes of irony (sometimes fierce) and great sensitivity a hilarious comedy about old age and the infinite possibilities of life. Because, in the end, it is never too late!
FRIDAY 18 AUGUST, 21.00
Tosca's Kiss (Switzerland, 1984, 87', rev.) documentary, by Daniel Schmid
Without the performances of singers and musicians, the history of music would only tell of forgotten and dusty sheet music. That is why, as a sign of gratitude to those who had made his music famous, the great composer Giuseppe Verdi founded a retirement home to house all artists who had fallen into decline. Daniel Schmid, the great master of Swiss cinema, gives us a magical and timeless fresco of 'Casa Verdi', capturing the faces, bodies, voices, notes, and stories of those who trod the stage for a lifetime. Thanks to the magic of cinema, past and present merge, as soon as the lights around the director's camera bring back memories of the times when the elderly inhabitants of the house were stage stars. An authentic gem to be rediscovered, the inspiration for Dustin Hoffman's Quartet, and loved by audiences on all continents.
SATURDAY 19 AUGUST, 21.00
The temptation to exist (Switzerland, 2022, 95', ver.o.) comedy/drama by Fabio Pellegrinelli

Instead of reporting the oversight, an unexpected decision takes shape in his mind: he withdraws the money and flees at 50 km per hour on his old but stainless scooter. Thus begins an enthralling on-the-road adventure that will take us from Ticino to the Po Delta, all on Elvezio's moped (magnificently played by Paolo Sassanelli) to sow the seeds of bizarre Swiss-German hitmen and an unlikely private investigator in the pay of the big bank. We have fun (a lot!), we are moved (a lot!), and we all become heroes for a day. Like Elvezio!
