11.12.2024 European Christmas Tree in Spinea - Exchange of Christmas Decorations 2024

On Wednesday, 11 December 2024 at 9.30 a.m. and at 11 a.m., in Piazza del Municipio in Spinea, you could attend the event "European Christmas Tree", which consisted of the public decoration of a large Christmas tree in front of the town hall with Christmas decorations from all over Europe, as a result of the European project to exchange Christmas decorations between European schools. The initiative saw the collaboration between Europe Direct Venezia Veneto of the Venice Municipality, the Municipality of Spinea and the French association Cercle Europe Citoyennetés et Identités (CECI), which is coordinating the 13th edition of the European educational project "Exchange of European Christmas decorations", aimed at European pre-school and primary schools.

Local authorities and 600 children from schools in the municipality of Spinea participating in the event were present: the primary school A. Mantegna, the primary school Anna Frank, and the primary school Marco Polo. The event was also open to families and all citizens. The tree will continue to be decorated with European decorations also in the days to come.

It is possible to admire the European Christmas tree in Piazza del Municipio in Spinea until Monday January, 6 2025.

The European project aims to promote mutual knowledge of European cultures through creative and engaging activities, such as the creation of Christmas decorations. The main objectives include:

• help students discover and understand Christmas traditions in other countries;
• promote the learning of languages, geography, history and culture of the European Union;
• developing the concept of European citizenship;
• fostering lasting relations and exchanges between schools of different nations.

Each participating school made several Christmas decorations representative of their region or country, using materials of their choice, and in turn received Christmas decorations from schools in other European countries to adorn a multicultural Christmas tree, a symbol of unity and diversity.
