24 April - Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day
Regardless of the words we use to describe the terrible events that took place in 1915, their historical reality cannot be denied. The European Commission (while recognising that EU member states still have different views on how to name the events of 1915), seeks ways to promote and support reconciliation. Reconciliation is a fundamental foundation of the European project and its basic values. It is essential that, in a spirit of reconciliation, countries are able to confront their past through open and frank debates. The EU encourages further significant steps paving the way for full reconciliation between Turkish and Armenian civil societies.
Among the events to be mentioned:
- 19 April 2023 at the Biblioteca Hugo Pratt (Via Sandro Gallo 136/b, Lido di Venezia), at 5.30 p.m., a conference entitled “Women of the Armenian Genocide: Between Memory and Literature”.
