From 3 to 12 May 2024 the facades of the Venice City Hall, Ca' Farsetti and Ca' Loredan, of the Mestre City Hall, the Mestre Civic Tower, and the fountain in Piazzale Giovannacci in Marghera will light up blue.

In this way, the City of Venice intends to celebrate Europe Day again this year, which takes place on May 9th, in memory of the "Schuman Declaration", a speech held in 1950 by the then French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman, in which he he had exposed the idea of a new form of political cooperation for Europe, which would have made war between continental nations unthinkable.

The blue lighting also recalls 5 May 1949, the foundation of the Council of Europe (through the Treaty of London), which has its only Italian headquarters in Venice.
