Europe Day Celebration 2024 in Venice
#FestaEuVenezia2024
From 3 to 31 May 2024 the Europe Day celebration in Venice took place, the great Venetian event, now in its 12th edition in view of the European Elections in June, as a sign of the pro-European nature of the City of Venice and the institutional partners that have always collaborated with it.
This year's edition was entitled "Europe Day Celebration in Venice - the right to vote".
=>SEE THE COLPETE PROGRAM OF THE EUROPE DAY CELEBRATION 2024
The event aimed to celebrate the two most significant historical dates for Europe:
- 5 May 1949: foundation of the Council of Europe with the Treaty of London
- 9 May 1950: birth of the European Union with the 'Schuman Declaration' at the Paris Speech (click here to read more)
The date of the event is significant since 9 May represents Europe Day. In fact, on 9 May 1950, just a few years after the end of the Second World War that had devastated the old continent, Robert Schuman the French Foreign Minister, presented a proposal to create an organised Europe, indispensable for the maintenance of peaceful relations between its member states. The proposal, known as the 'Schuman Declaration', is considered to be the birth certificate of the European Union.
Around this symbolic date, Europe Day is celebrated every year with the organisation of various events by the European institutions and the Member States.
