"Traveling Europe" module for Venetian middle schools 2024

Explaining the European Union and its institutions to citizens, and in particular to young people, is often a difficult task. Therefore, the need arises for an overall strategy that aims at the realization of the European dimension of education in terms of values and knowledge as a continuous process of interaction at the basis of which lies respect for the pluralism and diversity that are the heritage and wealth of the peoples of Europe.

The educational proposal "On the Road to Europe" designed and implemented by the Europe Direct service since 2007 for middle schools is divided into 2 moments:
- Presentation and conduction of the game "Travelling Europe," in which the children virtually travel around the European Union, trying their hand at questions about the culture, history, geography, and sports of the different member states. In the gymnasium or lecture hall.
- Classroom meeting in which a time is offered to reflect on the process of European unification, the motto of the European Union "United in diversity," and institutions and symbols of the Union.

"Travelling Europe"is a team game for middle schools that consists of a quiz on the culture of member states and takes the form of setting up a large foam rubber carpet-puzzle depicting the 27 countries of the European Union on which students move around. The game "Travelling Europe" represents a virtual journey through the countries of the European Union in order to understand the deepest values that unite the peoples of Europe and that form the basis for the formation of an awareness of "European citizenship," thus fostering the integration process.
The objective of the educational proposal is, through fun, to learn about other European nations with their cultural identities compared, to discover the customs and traditions of the different European peoples, and to deepen the meaning that the concepts of social integration and European citizenship take on.

The preferred target audience is 2nd and 3rd grade secondary school classes.
