The volume presents the contents and comments on the innovative scope of the Framework Convention of the Council of Europe on the Value of Cultural Heritage for the Society, as well as the strategies developed for its implementation, taking stock of the Italian context. Experiences of the actors involved in the field and academic research also highlight the varied panorama in which the ‘patrimonial communities’, as defined by the same legal text, have to develop their own action of regeneration and transfer of a heritage often put at risk by economic, social and demographic policies within Europe. The text stems from the desire to collect the contributions presented at the Convention "Faro Convention and the the Heritage Communities", held in Venice on 9 April 2018 as part of the awareness initiatives organized by the Italian Office of the Council of Europe for the desired and much awaited ratification by our country. The meeting was attended by institutional, local and international representatives from the academic world and civil society associations involved in the work of protecting and enhancing Europe’s rich cultural heritage, in its material as well as intangible meanings. With this collection of interventions were also printed, for the first time in Italy, the direct testimonies of associations and communities that for years put into practice the principles of the Faro Convention, with the aim of facilitating a comparison with similar European experiences.
