4.11-2.12.2019 - The European Parliament's Lux Film Prize
From 4 November to 2 December 2019 in Mestre at Cinema Dante dEssai the cycle dedicated to the three films finalists of the European Parliament’s Lux Film Prize 2019 takes place, organized by the Europe Direct of the City of Venice in collaboration with the European Parliament - Office in Milan, the Council of Europe - Venice Office, CINIT cineforum Italian, the Railway After Work Association and the Venice Municipal Cinema Circuit.
The three projections will be introduced by three experts of CINIT Cineforum.

- Monday 4 November 2019: finalist of the LUX FILM PRIZE 2019 Cold Case hammarskjöld - by Mads Brügger (Denmark/Norway/Sweden/Belgium) 120'
A provocative investigation into the death in 1961 of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the Swede Dag hammarskjöld. A film that reminds us how making cinema can stimulate awareness while remaining, as a bonus, even hilarious, compelling and profoundly humanist.
A powerful cinematographic work that tells the story of a woman who comes to a position accessible only to men during a religious ceremony, making a significant contribution to the battle for women’s rights: the most burning social issue of our time, which still needs to gain momentum in the Balkans.
The ten films selected for the 2019 competition were revealed on Sunday 30 June during the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival held in the Czech Republic. Original, moving, current: here are the ten films that are contested the LUX 2019 Film Prize:

LUX PRIZE
The LUX Prize is a film prize awarded annually to a European film production by the European Parliament. It was established in 2007, 50 years after the Treaty of Rome.
At its 13th edition, the LUX Prize reflects the will of the European Parliament to support cultural and linguistic diversity, in the belief that this diversity can serve as a bridge between Europeans. The LUX Prize aims to be a tool for discussing Europe, its values, its contradictions, and its future.
The objectives of the prize are to shed a different light on the public debate on European integration and to facilitate the circulation of European films, overcoming the language barrier that hinders the existence of a common European film market. With this in mind, the 87,000€ allocated to the winning film is intended to subtitle it in all 24 official languages of the European Union and produce a copy on film for each Member State.
The logo, on which the actual trophy is modelled, is a spiral of film inspired by the Tower of Babel, understood in a positive sense as a symbol of the richness of diversity, the linguistic and cultural diversity of the European Union.
"28 Times Cinema"
This year, the project 28 Times Cinema, another beautiful result of the fruitful partnership between the LUX Prize of the European Parliament and the Venice Days, reaches its ninth edition.
Thanks to the fundamental collaboration with Europa Cinemas and Cineuropa, 28 young people (one for each EU Member State) who are fond of cinema between 18 and 26 years old will be the Jury of Days of Authors.
In addition, the students will be completely immersed in the LUX Prize experience and will attend the screenings of the 3 films of the Official Competition. This will prepare them for the role of“Ambassadors”of the LUX Prize in Europe and will promote in their respective countries the V edition of the LUX Film Days, the European Film Days.
LUX FILM DAYS
After Venice, the selected films will continue their journey through Europe thanks to the Lux Film Days, this year at their sixth edition. This initiative is of great importance because not only professionals but also European spectators are now giving the film industry a fundamental direction. It is therefore essential for everyone to be able to express their sensitivity to cinema, and the awareness that Europe is rich and diverse. During the LUX Film Days, the 751 Members of the European Parliament will be invited to vote for one of the three films in competition. In November 2019, the winner of the LUX Prize will be announced at the formal sitting of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, in the presence of the directors finalists.
VENICE DAYS - GIORNATE DEGLI AUTORI
This year marks the 13th anniversary of the LUX FILM PRIZE and for the tenth time the collaboration between the LUX PRIZE of the European Parliament and the Days of Authors (Venice Days), promoted by Anac and 100authors, arrived at their 14th edition, which was held in Venice as part of the 76th Venice International Film Festival, organized with the support of the Cinema Directorate General of the mibact and the contribution of public and private partners.
The aim of the exhibition is to create attention for quality cinema, without any restrictions whatsoever, with an eye for innovation, research, expressive originality, independent and productive independence. All features present not only in the selected films, but in special events an meetings held during the Days.
