Webinar ”The future of Europe: challenges, funds and opportunities"

Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at 3 pm, the webinar "The future of Europe: challenges, funds and opportunities" was held with Massimo Gaudina, Director of the Representation in Milan of the European Commission, and Paola Ravenna, European Policy Manager of the City of Venice, in the presence of the President of the Council of the City of Venice, Ermelinda Damiano, who brought an introductory greeting.

During the webinar, after the introduction of President Ermelinda Damiano, who illustrated the events organized by the City of Venice on the occasion of Europe Day 2020, Massimo Gaudina, Director of the representation in Milan of the European Commission, illustrated the initiatives put in place by the European Commission to face the emergency COVID19. In particular, it illustrated the funded research projects, the Coronavirus Response Investment Initiative (CRII+) and the financial instruments put in place.
Paola Ravenna later illustrated the results of the European planning in Venice, making a focus on the participations realized with the Operations plan of the PON Metro 2014-2020, that it has carried on the Venetian territory 40,3 million euros. She also pointed out that European funds have enabled us, for example, to create new cycle paths, to bring families back to public parks through rehabilitation and the creation of game platforms, the organisation of cultural and sporting events, build the multi-channel platform DiMe and the Smart Control Room, restore 17 sports facilities, 167 public housing, build 2,217 smart parking lots. In 20 years of operation, 121 trans-national projects were managed and EUR 17.7 million obtained.
Massimo Gaudina also introduced CREATIVES UNITED platform created by the European Union to connect and share information and responses related to Covid between cultural and creative sectors. The new Creatives United platform provides a common space for all those seeking information on cultural and creative initiatives in response to the coronavirus crisis. Massimo Gaudina is the head of the Milan office of the European Commission’s representation in Italy since 2017.
Previously for eight years Gaudina was head of the Communication Unit at the European Research Council (ERC) in Brussels. In this capacity, he planned and coordinated the ERC’s communication strategy, promoting its calls for proposals and success stories. Between 2007 and 2009 he worked at the Commission’s Directorate-General for Communication, where he was responsible for the partnerships with Member States on communication actions, the project "European Public Spaces" (spaces open to the public in the buildings of the European Commission of the various Member States, where citizens can deepen their knowledge of the EU) and the initiatives addressed to young people and schools.
Between 2004 and 2007 he worked at the European Commission’s representation in Rome and, among his duties, organized the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome and launched the European Public Space at the representation premises.
Massimo Gaudina started working for the European Commission in 1994 as head of communication and before that he worked as a journalist in Italy.
Having graduated in Political Science from the University of Turin, Gaudina, in addition to Italian, which is his native language, speaks fluent English, French, Spanish and has a basic knowledge of Swedish.

Paola Ravenna is the Director of the Research Sector Sources of Financing and Community Policies - Responsible Intermediate Body of the Municipality of Venice.
