Europe Direct participates in the initiatives organized within the Venicemarathon, such as Family Run, non-competitive race on a track of about 3.5 km that unites children, families and all those who want to spend a day of health and fun, and Exposport, sports and leisure fair and meeting point for marathon runners to pick up the race bib, open on 22 and 23 October at the Parco San Giuliano in Mestre Porta Blu (opening hours: Friday 22 October 10.00-20.00, Saturday 23 October 9.00-20.00).

Europe Direct will be present at Exposport, with an institutional exhibition space to distribute gadgets and information materials on the European institutions and on the opportunities that the European Union offers to young people.
 
The aim of the initiative is to promote the values that the European Union attaches to sport as an instrument of social integration and intercultural dialogue, as an opportunity to spread notions of peace, tolerance and mutual understanding.

Education and Sport are two key areas to promote a harmonious development of the personality of young people, to build models of aggregation and identification, to provide emotional ideas combined with symbols of belonging.

The strong and proactive message that you want to give to young people is that sport has to be perceived as an "added and transversal competence" to enhance and harmonize those values as fair-play, self-overcoming, team spirit, tolerance, to better live everyday life.

Through sport, the EU aims to promote educational and social values in order to disseminate them among all citizens, as underlined in the White Paper on Sport, adopted in 2007 by the European Commission with the aim of giving strategic orientation to the role of sport in Europe, encourage debate and raise public awareness of the needs and peculiarities of the sector.

Since 2008, the Europe Direct service of the Municipality of Venice has been participating in sporting events dedicated to young people, such as, on this occasion, the initiatives related to Venicemarathon, like Exposport and Family Run.
