Friday, May 27, 2022 at 3 p.m. at the Council of Europe - Procuratie Vecchie oin San Marco 180/c, it was held the presentation of the book “Hostage forever: operation Chavin de Huantar”

Peru and Italy, not so far apart, linked by a thin thread of similar stories related to the dark season of terrorism and violence, a struggle led by special men, but also a story of values, ethics and attachment to duty that unites the two countries and shows how events do not only affect "combatants" but involve and often overwhelm their families. A tale that follows the red line separating hostages from affection and freedom, leading to military intervention, with the risk of carnage, poised between ethics and law. The travail of those who had to decide "when" to intervene, aware that they could have been one of the first victims. An engaging account of the protagonist of a textbook action, who knows he can count on the men he trained, but also of his own personal and family transition, marking his own life. Peru and Italy, characterized by very shady and "short" memories when it concerns the military, forgetting that the same are nothing more than citizens in uniform who should enjoy not privileges but at least the same rights, including the right to oblivion.
