PAVÈ, Cycling in Venice is the bike festival of storytelling for cultural change that took place on 3-4-5 May 2024 with the contribution of the Consulate General of Switzerland in Milan, the collaboration of Europe Direct Venezia Veneto of the Municipality of Venice and the patronage of the Veneto Region, the Municipality of Venice, IUAV University of Venice and the Italian Federation of Environment and Cycling.

Pavè is an event that runs along two narrative paths:

CITIES AND CHANGE: we talk about how to put people back at the centre of cities, sending the old self-centred model into the dustbin. Cities all over the world are facing the consequences of the unrestrained use of cars and polluting vehicles. The first issue to be addressed for the spread of urban cycling is the construction of a bicycle-friendly environment, in which it is possible to move everywhere comfortably and safely.
CYCLING: Cycling as ecology, a philosophy of life, a way of observing the world with other eyes and rhythms. Testimonials that speak of the relationship that the cyclist establishes with the territory in which he or she moves: a profound bond that involves all the senses and allows one to perceive nuances and details of the landscape that with a fast means of transport lose their meaning.

A dense programme of meetings, a varied panel of Italian and foreign speakers: two days of talks, cinema and workshops in the M9 museum district. In particular, Europe Direct Venezia Veneto of the Municipality of Venice is collaborating on the following initiatives:

=> On Friday 3 May at 6 p.m., the docu-film "MATTER OUT OF PLACE" by Nikolaus Geyrhalter - Running time: 105 minutes (Austria, 2022) was screened: in the mountains of Switzerland or the Maldives, on the Balkan coast or in the deserts of Nevada. We no longer know where to put all that 'misplaced matter', i.e. any object with an unnatural impact on the surrounding environment. A documentary that shows how the problem of waste disposal is (or is not) dealt with in various parts of the world, using evocative photography and a register that ranges from the hyper-realistic to the visionary. The never-ending struggle to manage the waste of local realities, in a feature film that speaks almost only in images, highlighting the contradictions of certain ecosystems.

=> On Sunday, 5 May from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Parco San Giuliano, Pagoda Area , the Europe Direct Venezia Veneto institutional gazebo was set up to find out everything there is to know about the European Union and the opportunities it offers the citizens of Veneto and Venice. European information material is available at the stand on topics such as European funding programmes, the rights of European citizens, opportunities to study and work abroad, and much more.
