European Heritage Days 2024
On 28 and 29 September 2024, heritage walks were held in Italy, in particular in Venice, on the occasion of the European Heritage Days, Europe's largest and most popular cultural event. This year's theme was "Heritage on the Move", an invitation to discover and rediscover paths, routes, connections and networks which, today or in the past, have made relations and exchanges between peoples and cultures possible and contributed to the formation of our identity.
The Italian theme of GEP 2024 "Heritage on the move" takes up the European slogan "Routes, Networks and Connections", chosen by the Council of Europe and shared by the countries participating in the event. It was an opportunity to reflect on culture as an element of relationships: the invitation was therefore to consider the cultural heritage of the local sphere by placing it in a broader dimension, and to search in it for traces of the relationships between peoples who moved by land and sea, meeting and sharing knowledge, cultural and artistic practices, but also commercial activities, religious beliefs, craft and agricultural skills, and technical innovations. The theme offers the opportunity to explore from multiple perspectives the evolution of our culture and how this conditions the way we live, work, study and spend our leisure time today.
Once again this year, the Venice Office of the Council of Europe, the only Italian office. has coordinated events throughout Italy for the occasion. Below you can browse the proposals by Region and Province. The list also included other activities organised by partners outside the European Heritage Days.

The walks, different from the well-known guided tours, promoted the interaction of citizens with the cultural heritage through the experiences of the inhabitants, revealing the extraordinary riches of our territories.
