24.09.2024 Training course "Sport and Finance. The role of information"
On
Tuesday 24 September 2024 from
9.00 a.m. to 1.30 p.m., at the Auditorium of the M9 Museum in Mestre, a training course was held for journalists from the Veneto region, entitled
"Sport and Finance. The role of information", which was also open to the public, with free access subject to availability. The course was held in cooperation with the
Veneto Ordine dei Giornalisti, Europe Direct Venezia Veneto of the Municipality of Venice and the international affairs magazine
Atlantis.
The world of sport - fundamental for the education of young people and a sector of primary importance from the point of view of national and global economies - is undergoing a moment of great transformation. International finance is investing heavily in the most popular and practised sport, football, with takeovers of historic clubs in Europe's top leagues, while countries that previously paid little attention to the sporting phenomenon are becoming poles of attraction through public and private economic investment. This change, together with a changing society on the basis of a different ethnic and demographic composition and an evident social change, is also repartitioning the needs to organise the sector on the basis of great complexity and diversity. Hyper-professional sport is profoundly different from the practice of the same at amateur and youth level, and above all, not so much as a reservoir of future champions but for essentially educational purposes.
The analysis of these changes, useful to orient journalistic colleagues in this ‘disorder’ caused by change, was the basis for this course in which a business lawyer (investments, corporate situations, legal and contractual regulations, etc.), a central banker (finance and new rules to ensure transparency and regularity), a coach (experience of both youth sectors and professional football), the director of the Italian office of the Council of Europe (sporting regulations on ethics, anti-doping, etc.), and some colleagues who are experts in sporting matters take turns.
