Deaths
A declaration of death must be made by a family member or person delegated by the family (handwritten affidavit) to the Civil Registry Office of the place where the death occurred.
If the death occurred in a hospital or other institution, the director, or delegate, transmits the death notice to the Civil Registry Office.

What to do
in order to obtain authorisation for entombment/burial the following must be submitted:

certificate of the necropsy pathologist;

ISTAT death certificate drawn up by the doctor

To obtain authorisation for cremation, it is necessary to submit:

a medical certificate attesting to the exclusion of death caused by a third party;

holographic will of the deceased containing the desire to be cremated, duly published by a notary public; or registration of the deceased with Socrem (Cremation Society); or a declaration by the next of kin made before the Civil Registry Office that they wish to proceed with the cremation of the body.
The authorisation is sent by certified email to the funeral home delegated by the family by the Civil Registry Office that registered the death.

How much does it cost?
The application and authorisation for cremation are subject to a stamp duty of €16.00.
The administrative fee is €100.00.
Payment of the administrative fee can be made through the CBill Pago Pa system after receiving the appropriate slip from the competent office.
Quality standards
1- time interval between submission of documents and registration of death certificate, <= 24 hours
2- time interval between registration of death certificate and issue of burial/cremation authorisation, <= 30 days.
