The Arte-Mide cultural association of Venice, which promotes research and theatrical production centered on the female image and social history over the centuries up to the present day, on the occasion of the month of March dedicated to initiatives in favor of women, wishes give voice to the extraordinary eighteenth-century painter Rosalba Carriera, who dedicated her entire existence to painting, a cultured and technically gifted woman and disputed by the greatest sovereigns of Europe. Born in Venice in 1673 and died in 1757.
A free and emancipated woman, a gifted and tireless artist, born of a petty bourgeois Venetian family, with her art she will reach unexpected goals, unthinkable for a woman in those centuries. Cultured, enterprising, she spoke and wrote in French, English, composed music, played and sang. Her expertise was also expressed as a merchant/broker and in the sale of important paintings. She was the first woman to obtain the title of "Maestra dell'Accademia di San Luca" in Rome and Paris, she was awarded the honor of "Maestra dell'Accademia Royale", one of her works was posted in the Louvre, although in those years a resolution forbade the exhibition of works created by women. Able to weave professional relationships and friendships with the most important rulers of the time, he transformed his studios into real cultural salons, where the aristocrats were willing to wait months and even years to get a portrait of him. Esteemed and appreciated as an artist, from the beginning of her career, Rosalba proved to be an entrepreneur of herself, giving value to her works. Engaged in the preparation of colors, she invented and experimented until the end of her days with paints and chemical compounds useful for fixing pastels, leaving us masterpieces that have remained intact and brilliant up to the present day. The interpretation of some fragments taken from Rosalba Carriera's diaries and letters will alternate with the projections of numerous paintings by the artist, restoring the historical cross-section of the time in a fresh and brilliant way. Attention will be paid to the technique and use of chalks and some "technical secrets" will be revealed to create the colors that the painter jealously kept in her notebook. The performance will be accompanied by some original live musical pieces of the time by the musician and singer Rachele Colombo.
