11.11.2024 Lectio Magistralis ‘International Arbitration: European and Latin American Perspectives’

On Monday, 11 November 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the Lectio Magistralis ‘International Arbitration: European and Latin American Perspectives’ was held in Venice at the Aula Magna Silvio Trentin, Ca' Dolfin (Dorsoduro 3859), by Professor Diego P. Fernández Arroyo, Professor at Sciences Po University in Paris, President of the Curatorium of the Hague Academy of International Law, and President of the Paris International Academy for Arbitration Law, former Secretary General of the International Academy of Comparative Law. The Lectio Magistralis was organised in collaboration with Ca‘ Foscari University of Venice (Department of Economics), the Ca’ Foscari Legal Studies Centre, and Europe Direct Venezia Veneto of the Municipality of Venice

Admission was free and open to the general public subject to availability. 
The event was  held in Italian.

Born in Argentina, Diego P. Fernández Arroyo, has been a Professor at Sciences Po since 2010. He teaches international litigation, arbitration, comparative law and private/public international law. He is the Director of the LLM in Transnational Arbitration & Dispute Settlement. He was the scientific co-director of the Global Governance Studies specialty within the Economic Law master's degree and was co-founder of the PILAGG (Private International Law as Global Governance) research program. Diego P. Fernández Arroyo is often appointed as an international arbitrator (ICC, ICSID, PCA, Milan Chamber, etc.) and as an expert. He is a member of the ICSID list of arbitrators and conciliators and was a member of the PCA. He has developed several projects in arbitration for the European Union, the Andean Community, MERCOSUR, and the Latin American Integration Association. He is Co-Director of the Latin American Arbitration Conference since 2009.

The Lectio Magistralis was introduced by Professor Fabrizio Marrella, Professor of International Law at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, member of the Steering Committee of the "Observatory of International Relations and Politics (OPRI)", member of the Senatorial commission for institutional relations with non-European countries, director of the Professional Master's Programme in Geopolitics and Economics Affairs, director of the Professional Master's Programme in Strategic Studies and International Security.

Professor Sara De Vido, Associate Professor of International Law at Ca‘ Foscari University and Rector's delegate for the International Holocaust Remembrance Day and the National Memorial Day of the Exiles and Foibe, and Professor Gabriele Asta, lecturer in International Law and European Union Law at Ca’ Foscari, intervened as well.
