Documents to be produced for non-residents and foreigners
In order to be able to use the service, appropriate documentation must be submitted, depending on whether one is a citizen:

residents, banns of marriage are required (go to the banns of marriage );

non-residents, a written request from the Mayor of the municipality of residence that published the banns of marriage is required;

foreigners, and in particular:
citizens of Austria, Switzerland, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Portugal, Turkey, Moldova and Luxembourg must submit:
- the certificate of legal capacity to marry issued pursuant to the Convention signed in Munich on 5 September 1980.
US and Australian citizens must submit:
- the affidavit made respectively at the US or Australian Consulate in Italy, subsequently legalised at the Prefecture;
- the affidavit made at the Italian Consulate in the USA or Australia.
British citizens must submit:
- the certificate of “no impediments” issued by the British Registry Office, with apostille, duly translated;
- bilingual affidavit made before the British notary public with apostille.
British citizens resident in Italy or outside Great Britain can submit the certificate of no impediment issued by the British Consulate in Italy.
All other foreign nationals must submit the certificate of no impediment or certificate of legal capacity to marry issued by the competent authority in their own country (or by the embassy or consulate in Italy) showing no impediment to marry.
